„Mountain Score“ is a metric for measuring the „bigness“ or geographical relevance of mountains. It integrates concepts of mountain prominence, isolation, relative elevation as well as steepness and accordancy to summit levels. These geographical aspects are being weighted in a specific way that allows rankings of mountains and hills all over the world. The model is based on the insight that neither prominence nor elevation alone are sufficient reasons for mountains appearing huge and mighty.
Due to free time limitations the derivation and explanation of the Mountain Score model are only given in German. Hopefully this can be changed in the near future. Have a look at my theory articles or at the rankings of top mountains in the Alps (TOP 100), in Germany, Ireland, or other regions. Here you can enter the database. Feel free to contribute.
